Proper Use of Containers
- All household garbage and trash must be drained of all liquids and placed in heavy-duty plastic bags with the ends securely tied.
- Boxes must be broken down and flattened before being placed in the container.
- Paint in cans must be completely dried before being placed in the container.
- Tree limbs, hedge and shrub clippings as well as lumber must be cut into lengths 3 feet or less (about the length of you leg) before being placed in the dumpster, a few each week.
- On average, there is 1 dumpster for every 4 residences. When disposing of boxes, grass, hedge or tree trimmings, please remember to leave room for your neighbors to place their garbage and trash in the container.
- Animal waste may placed in the container only if it has been placed in plastic bags and securely tied and cannot be dumped or thrown in the alley.
- The placement of any items on the ground beside the container that would normally be placed in the container, thereby causing litter, is expressly prohibited.
- Keep lids closed.
- No one shall molest (deface) containers for any reason.
- Do not put dead animals or parts of dead animals in the container.
- Never put chemicals, liquid paint or flammable liquids in the container.
- Never put hot coals from a grill or fireplace in the container.
- Never put large items, including long pieces of wood or metal, in the container. If large items stick out of the container, the truck cannot empty it.
- No one other than authorized City employees shall remove any items from containers (No “Dumpster Diving”).
- Contractors for hire of any kind (building contractors, roofers, remodelers, tree trimmers, etc.) may not place any items in the container. It is the responsibility of the contractor for hire to deliver all their trash and items to the sanitary landfill, including all limbs and cuttings from hedges and shrubs.
