City reminds residents that the City is not responsible for waterline ruptures on private property on the customer’s side of the water meter
Altus, OK — February 19, 2021 — The City of Altus has been repairing numerous waterline ruptures throughout the city over the past week. These waterline breaks are caused by the extreme cold temperatures our city is facing. City crews are working hard to ensure a safe water supply.
As Altus begins to thaw, we expect more waterline ruptures. We will respond as quickly as possible, so that any disruptions to water service remain at a minimum.
While the City of Altus is responsible for maintaining all city waterlines up to, and including, the water meter, we want to remind customers that any waterline breaks from the meter to a residence or to a business are the responsibility of the property owner. If you are experiencing a customer-side waterline break and need your water turned off during regular business hours, call (580) 481-2295. If after hours, call (580) 482-4121.
If you encounter a leak on the city-side of the water line during regular business hours, please call the City Water/Sewer Line Maintenance Department at (580) 481-2250. Outside of regular business hours, call the non-emergency police dispatch number (580) 482-4121 to report any water leaks on the city side.
