My neighbors are stacking debris on my side of the alley, what can I do?: City code says residents are to place debris for bulk pickup in the alley adjacent to their property line. If you are not comfortable talking to your neighbor you can call code enforcement at 481-2263 and file a complaint.

1. Where is the landfill?: The City of Altus Landfill is located 8 miles west of town on highway 62 and 1.5 miles north on South CR 196 (N1960). 3. I have trimmed my trees and shrubs and don't know what to do with the trimmings. How should I dispose of them?: If you hired someone to do the trimming they are responsible for hauling the materials to the City landfill. If you did the work and are able please take the materials to the landfill. The first 1500 lbs. you take will be free. If you can not haul yourself please stack the material on your side of the alley, cut into small pieces, not over 3 feet long and as space permits place small quantities in the dumpster. Please remember your neighbors and don't overfill the dumpster.

4. How can I dispose of cans of paint?: Offer it on one of the local buy, sell or trade web sites or on the local radio stations morning programs. If that fails open the cans and let the paint harden and take it to the landfill or put it in the dumpster. The landfill will not accept liquid waste.

5. Where do I stack items for bulk pickup?: In the alley adjacent to your property line. Do not cover up water or gas meters and please don’t pile it against the dumpster, the driver won’t be able to empty the dumpster if debris is stacked to close to it.

6. How many dumpsters should be in my alley?: In most alleys that have houses on both sides it is one dumpster for every four houses. In alleys that only have houses on one side, the dumpsters are spaced for use by two or three households depending on the size of the lots. We try not to make the customer walk very far to dispose of their trash.
