The City Manager serves as the chief administrative officer for the City of Altus, responsible for overseeing daily operations, implementing policies set by the City Council, and coordinating efforts across all city departments. As a non-elected official, the City Manager ensures efficient service delivery, sound fiscal management, and strategic planning that supports the community’s long-term goals. This role bridges the gap between policy and practice — turning vision into action for the residents of Altus.
Gary Jones, CPA, currently serves as the City Manager for the City of Altus. He also represents the city on the Board of Directors for the Oklahoma Municipal Power Authority.
Jones brings extensive experience in public service, having previously served as Oklahoma State Auditor and Inspector from 2011 to 2019, and as a Comanche County Commissioner from 1995 to 1998.
A lifelong resident of Southwest Oklahoma, Jones is a 1972 graduate of Lawton Eisenhower High School and earned his degree in Business Administration with a minor in Accounting from Cameron University in 1978. He has been a Certified Public Accountant since 2000.
He and his wife, Mary Jane — a retired kindergarten teacher — have been married for 42 years. They have two children and three grandchildren.
