Proper Use of Bulk Trash Service

The City of Altus offers bulk trash pickup to help keep our community clean, but there are a few important things you need to know to make the most of this service!
📆 How It Works
Bulk trash pickup is not available on request. Instead, our contractor runs on a rotating 60-day schedule, covering the entire city section by section.
When it’s your turn, items left in the alley will be picked up during that area’s scheduled sweep — no need to call.
âś… What You CAN Put Out
Our crews will collect only the following items from residential properties:
Furniture
Appliances
Bathroom fixtures
Important: Residents and businesses are responsible for disposing of all other items not listed above.
📍 How to Place Your Items
Put items neatly in your alley, right along your own property line.
Do not place anything:
Inside or next to trash containers
Near fences, utility poles, water/gas meters, or electrical equipment
On someone else’s property
🚫 Contractors — Please Note!
Contractors (roofers, tree trimmers, remodelers, etc.) cannot use the city’s bulk trash service.
All contractor waste, including limbs and hedge trimmings, must be taken directly to the landfill by the contractor.
🗑️ Free Landfill Drop-Off for Residents
Altus residents can bring up to 1,500 pounds of trash per month to the Altus Municipal Landfill for free!
To qualify, you must:
Show a current utility bill and driver’s license
Pay for any tires or loads over 1,500 lbs
Use a personal vehicle (no contractor drop-offs)
