Altus Fire-EMS Department is a professional fire-rescue service in the City of Altus. The Department is composed of 32 uniformed personnel and 1 civilian employee at two fire stations located within the City. On average, over 700 emergency calls are responded to annually. The City has an ISO rating of 3.
Emergency Response
The Altus Fire and EMS Department responds to fire and medical emergencies as well as Haz-Mat, utility emergencies, weather-related events, and vehicular accidents. Response to emergency events is less than 4 minutes on average. Also, the Department responds to non-emergency calls such as smoke and CO detector malfunctions, life-safety lockout, lift assistance, Medi Flight and Air Evac approach, free smoke detector installation, and general assistance calls.
Other Duties
When on duty, Firefighters are required to complete two hours of classroom training and clean and inspect stations and equipment. Throughout the year, the Department cleans, paints, and completes flow testing on over 680 fire hydrants throughout the City, and the Fire Marshal/Inspector conducts over 800 business inspections.
