Directions

Altus Emergency Management helps protect life, property, and the community by preparing for, responding to, and recovering from emergencies and disasters.

The department works with local, county, state, and federal partners to support emergency planning, public warning, disaster response, and community preparedness.

Be Prepared

Emergencies can happen quickly. Residents are encouraged to make a plan, build an emergency kit, and stay connected to official information.

Helpful preparedness resources:

Emergency Alerts

Residents are encouraged to sign up for the City’s emergency alert system to receive important public safety updates.

During emergencies, official warnings may be shared through:

  • Emergency alert notifications

  • NOAA Weather Radio

  • Local radio and television stations

  • Cable TV alerts

  • Outdoor warning sirens

  • City communication channels

A battery-powered radio is recommended as part of every emergency kit in case power or internet service is unavailable.

Outdoor Warning Sirens

The City of Altus maintains a system of outdoor warning sirens designed to alert residents of imminent hazards, including severe weather and other emergencies.

How the Sirens Work

Sirens are activated by Emergency Management or 911 personnel.

There is no “all clear” signal. Sirens may sound for various emergency situations, but most commonly during:

  • Tornado Warnings

  • Situations requiring immediate shelter-in-place

If you hear a siren and are outdoors, go indoors immediately and seek shelter.

If you hear a siren and are already indoors, remain inside and stay tuned to reliable news or emergency information sources.

Do not go outside to investigate.

ALTUS STORM SIREN LOCATIONS

The City of Altus maintains a network of storm sirens strategically placed across the community to help alert residents in the event of severe weather. When activated by Emergency Management or 911 personnel, residents should take immediate action and seek shelter. There is no “all-clear” siren—please stay tuned to local media and NOAA alerts for ongoing updates.

Siren Locations:

• 300 E. Pheasant Circle

• 3316 N. Park Lane

• 1915 N. Main Street

• San Ann @ Horizon

• 600 S. Navajo Street

• 515 W. Pecan Street
