The Oklahoma Department of Transportation (ODOT) is expected to begin a major resurfacing project along Main Street/US-283 in Altus on June 1, 2026.
Updates:
5/29/26: Due to weather, the projected start date has changed from June 1 to June 4* (estimated)
6/10/26: While ODOT previously indicated that milling and paving operations within the city core would primarily occur overnight, work activities are currently taking place during daytime hours as the project gets underway. Construction schedules may be adjusted throughout the project based on weather, traffic conditions, and operational needs.
The project will include milling the existing roadway surface and applying new asphalt pavement and markings. Work will begin at D Street and continue north through Altus for approximately five miles, ending near East County Road 1580 (the “Martha Y” intersection).
The project is expected to last approximately three to four weeks. Schedules, work zones, and traffic control plans are subject to change based on weather, equipment availability, and operational needs.
Drivers should expect:
• Lane closures and shifting traffic patterns
• Daytime milling operations
• Nighttime paving operations
• Delays near intersections and high-traffic areas
• Temporary traffic signal adjustments
Within the city core, from D Street north to Tamarack Road, milling and paving operations will primarily take place overnight between approximately 7 PM and 5 AM to help reduce disruptions to traffic, businesses, and daily activity.
Businesses along the corridor are expected to remain open throughout construction. Crews will work to maintain access whenever possible, though temporary interruptions may occur during active work operations.
Drivers are encouraged to use alternate routes when possible and allow additional travel time through the work zone.
For construction-related questions, please contact ODOT directly at 580-482-3191. The City of Altus will continue to share project updates as work progresses.
Please slow down in work zones and use caution around crews and equipment. Thank you for your patience as these improvements are completed.
