The City of Altus offices and departments will be closed on Thursday, July 4, in observance of Independence Day. Regular business hours will resume on Monday, July 7. As the holiday approaches, the Altus Police Department would like to remind everyone that fireworks are not allowed within city limits. This is to help keep our neighborhoods safe for residents, pets, and property. If you are celebrating outside the city limits, please follow all safety guidelines: only use fireworks in permitted areas, always have adult supervision, follow safety labels, avoid combining fireworks with alcohol, and never try to relight fireworks that did not go off. Be sure to stay clear of buildings, cars, and dry areas. The City of Altus wishes everyone a fun, safe, and memorable Fourth of July. The City of Altus is hosting a Blood Drive in partnership with the Oklahoma Blood Institute on Tuesday, July 9th, from 10:00 AM to 2:00 PM at the City Hall in the Main lobby (509 Main Street, Altus, OK 73521). This is a great chance to give back and help save lives. All participating donors will receive a free t-shirt and two tickets to Hurricane Harbor or Frontier City. The City of Altus is hiring a full-time Customer Service Representative II for the Utility Department. This role is perfect for someone who’s organized, friendly, and thrives in a busy office. Responsibilities include helping customers with billing, payments, new accounts, and service transfers, solving billing issues, managing utility programs like Average Billing and Air Force Waiver, and assisting walk-ins and calls. Applicants should have at least one year of experience in retail, cashiering, or a similar office setting, plus strong computer and communication skills. A high school diploma or GED is required.
