🌳 Free Mulch Available at Blaine Drop-Off Site! 🌳
The City of Altus has been busy turning tree limbs and brush into wood mulch, and now residents are welcome to come pick some up for free at the Blaine Drop-Off site.
👉 How you can use mulch at home:
• Gardens & Flower Beds – Helps keep moisture in the soil and reduces weeds.
• Around Trees & Shrubs – Protects roots, regulates soil temperature, and looks tidy.
• Walking Paths & Play Areas – Provides a softer, more natural ground covering.
• Composting & Soil Health – Breaks down over time and adds nutrients back into your soil.
📍 Location: Blaine Drop-Off Site
💵 Cost: Free for Altus residents (bring your own shovel and container, truck, or trailer)
Take as much as you can use, and give your yard or garden a natural boost while helping us recycle tree debris into something useful for the community.

The City of Altus is flushing hydrants in different areas of town to push out older, stale water from the lines. When water sits too long without enough movement, it can cause discoloration, unusual taste, or odors. Flushing helps clear this out and brings in a fresh flow, improving overall water quality for everyone.

No Dumping Outside the Fence
The large pile you see at Blaine Street isn’t from the roll-off containers being full — it’s from people dumping tree limbs outside the fence where it’s not allowed.
👉 All limbs must go inside the roll-off containers
👉 Nothing can be dumped on the ground or outside the fence
When limbs are dumped in the wrong place, our crews have to spend extra time cleaning it up — on top of hauling what’s already in the containers. That slows everything down for the whole community.

⚡ Tree Trimming Notice 🌳

📍 Crews are currently working along Buena Vista heading south toward Lakeside.
📍 Next week they will move north from Buena Vista to Tamarack.
This work is important to reduce outages and keep our community safe during severe weather. If you see crews near your property, please know they are authorized City contractors.

The forecast for this week is looking active. Temperatures will feel more like summer at the start of the week, with highs in the upper 80s, before cooling down later this week.
Rain chances are in the 30 to 70 percent range each day, with the best chance of showers and storms arriving Wednesday through Friday. Some of these storms could be heavier, bringing lightning, brief downpours, and gusty winds.
The drought monitor continues to increase across southwest Oklahoma, but the extended outlook is leaning toward above-normal precipitation. We’ll be keeping an eye on the skies and hoping for some much-needed rain.
Stay safe, stay weather aware, and have a great week!
