The mission for every Member of the Altus Police Department is to seek and find ways to promote, preserve and deliver a genuine feeling of security, safety and quality of life to all members and visitors of the community.

The police department currently employs 44 police officers that includes 34 patrol officers, 8 detectives, 1 Deputy Chief, and the elected Chief of Police. The Enhanced 911 dispatch center currently employs 10 full-time dispatchers. The department also employs 3 secretaries. 2 for detectives and 1 secretary for the Police Administration.

The City of Altus is located in the far southwestern portion of Oklahoma 19 miles north of the Red River, 39 miles east of the Texas border.
