The Emergency Weather Shelter is now closed as conditions have improved.
A huge THANK YOU to the Altus community for the donations, volunteers, and support that helped us provide a warm place for more than 25 individuals during dangerously cold weather.
Altus takes care of Altus. 💙
— City of Altus

Due to continued cold weather, the City of Altus has extended Warming Station and Overnight Emergency Shelter services from January 27 through January 29, 2026. Please share this information with anyone who may need shelter.

❤️ A Message to Our Community
We want to be very clear and very intentional.
The Warming Station and Overnight Shelter are safe spaces. This effort is about keeping people warm and safe during extreme cold. It is not about where anyone comes from, where they live, their background, or their circumstances.
We are aware that some individuals have left after seeing police presence, and we want to address that concern directly.
Police officers may be present to help ensure physical safety at the site. The focus at the warming station is on safety, shelter, and basic needs during extreme cold conditions. This message is intended to address concerns about safety during severe weather and does not establish or change City or law enforcement policy.
This space is open to anyone and everyone who needs a warm place to stay or simply wants relief from the cold. No ID is required to access the warming station.
We also want to say thank you. Thank you to our volunteers who have shown up with compassion and care. Thank you to the community members who donated supplies and resources. At this time, we have enough donations to meet current needs. If that changes, we will reach out again.
If you or someone you know needs a warm, safe place, please know that you are welcome here. Our priority is care, dignity, and safety for all.

Extreme cold is expected, and the City of Altus is working with community partners to ensure warming and overnight shelter options are available.
Warming Station hours, overnight shelter details, transportation information, volunteer opportunities, and current donation needs are outlined here:
